So, sitting at breakfast and enjoying my coffee, I suddenly hear a familiar voice, metallic and angry, come from the living room. It’s Starscream. My daughter has been moving through all the Transformers cartoons since seeing Dark of the Moon, and today she has fallen upon the original from 1984. So I sit and watch, and cringe, and in the end decide that the only reason that I enjoyed this must have been from some lack of proper ventilation in the house.
It was horrible.
Where did the show that I loved go to? What was wrong with me that I enjoyed this? Was the rest of my childhood memories this bad? That part got me to thinking, I’ve just crossed over into my 40′s and suddenly music I listened to is showing up in commercials, celebrities I recognize from back then are pulling cameos in TV and movies, and the circle is coming around again. Remakes are being made, sequels are being planned, and everything old is new again. With remakes on the horizon such as Evil Dead, Dirty Dancing, Escape from New York and Drop Dead Fred (WTH?!) someone needs to step up and check this stuff out.
Enter us. 40 Going On 14.
We’re a bunch of guys that are watching their childhood be re-ran for now, watching the movies, games, TV shows, music of then come back to now. Does it hold up? Does the remake keep with the spirit of the original? Was the original crap and we just didn’t know it? We’ll take on that task and more. Come join Mike, Nick, Josh and Wil as we look back at what was once dear to our hearts, and at what is up and coming.
